NO SCHOOL, Monday 11/13, Veterans Day (observed)
NO SCHOOL for students, Wednesday 11/15, Professional Development for Teachers
A quick reminder that tomorrow is Red, White & Blue Spirit Day and we invite students to wear red, white, and blue to school to celebrate Veterans Day. We will be having our schoolwide Veterans Day ceremony tomorrow morning to start the school day. We're looking forward to welcoming OCRS parents and grandparents who are veterans to join us for the ceremony.

Reminder, NO SCHOOL tomorrow, November 7th due to Election Day!
TWO important calendar reminders for this week:
We set the clocks back one hour this Sunday morning to end Daylight Savings Time. While it means we all get an extra hour of sleep this weekend, it does tend to throw everyone off for a few days, particularly around getting ready for school.
There is no school this Tuesday, November 7th due to Election Day. There is no school for all of the Smithfield schools. Old County Road School is being used as a polling place on Tuesday.
The SHS Music Department has its first concert of the year on Thursday, Oct. 26th, at 7 pm. The band, chorus, Sentinel Singers, Garageband, and soloists will perform. All are invited! It will be a FREE, fun, Halloween-themed concert lasting no more than one hour.
Reminder, no school this Monday, October 9th on the Columbus Day holiday
Wear Green Friday in recognition of Unified Day.
This fall our Lifetouch School Picture Day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 11th. Teachers will be sending home paper packets with students starting tomorrow that contain information about ordering pictures. Families do NOT need to order or purchase school pictures, but all students will have their picture taken at school by Lifetouch to update their school records.
Families can find information about Picture Day online at https://schools.lifetouch.com/for-your-families/ and even pre-order picture packages using the OCRS code EVTWRT6T2.
I apologize, but this afternoon's online Volunteer Training at 4:30 PM will need to be rescheduled. I will let families know about the next date and time for the training. I apologize for any inconvenience and I appreciate your understanding.
Mr. Barrette
Busy week @ SHS counseling office. Students learned about early college enrollment courses they can take in high school, college admissions counselors are meeting with interested students, & Mr. Jackson provided tips on high school success to 9th graders. Great opportunities!
Just a reminder that the Scholastic Book Fair is being held this Wednesday night, September 20th, in the Maker Space as part of Open House. Your child received a flyer to bring home at the end of last week with all of the details regarding the Book Fair. Any family that is interested will have an opportunity to shop at the Book Fair with their child.

It was great to see students so engaged in Ms. Tourgee's art class today @ Old County Road School. A wonderful lesson combining art, literature, & community building. Thank you! @SmithfieldSchls #Art #ThankfulThursday #Teachers #Students
A reminder that today all Smithfield schools are being dismissed 2 hours early due to the extreme heat. For OCRS, that means that dismissal today will be at 12:45 PM instead of our normal 2:45 PM.
Some additional important details:
- Students will have lunch at school as normal at their regular time prior to early dismissal.
- There is no YMCA after school program today. Families will need to make alternate plans for your student. Please inform the school if your child is taking a different bus home today or if they are being picked up at 12:45 PM.
- If your student normally takes the bus home, their dismissal bus schedule will run 2 hours early this afternoon. Dismissal begins at 12:45 PM.
- If your student is picked up this afternoon, please plan to pick them up at 12:45 PM
Thank you for your flexibility today and stay cool!
Due to the expected extreme heat conditions Thursday, Sept 7, the Smithfield Public Schools will have a 2-hour early dismissal for grades K-12. PM preschool and the YMCA After School Programs are cancelled. Your principals will be sending you a message regarding the dismissal time for your schools. Administrators will be in our schools until the end of the day to ensure that all students are able to arrive home safely. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Bartz
Superintendent
