Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to all our faculty @SmithfieldSchls. Thank you for all you do!
We're inviting students (and staff) to celebrate May 4th by wearing their favorite Star Wars themed/related clothing to school tomorrow! Students don't need anything special; they can even wear their OCRS gear if they don't have anything that is Star Wars themed. Star Wars themed hairstyles are also welcome.
The lunch program is offering "Jabba the Pizza Hutt" and "Princess Leia Salad" as options for tomorrow to join in on the fun.
We do ask that students please refrain from bringing in lightsabers or any other props.

The PTA is hosting a family after dinner "Sock Hop" dance on Saturday, April 29th from 6PM to 9PM in the OCRS gymnasium. This is an event for students and their families to attend together and NOT a drop-off event. The cost of the event is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Kids under 3 years old are free. Families can pay at the door via cash or check.
The event will feature a DJ and a photographer! Beverages and light refreshments will be served. Come dressed in your best "sock hop" or dapper attire. To protect the beautiful new gymnasium floor, we ask that everyone wear soft sole shoes; please do not wear high-heeled shoes.

Teaching & Learning Night is being celebrated at each of the elementary schools Wed. night @SmithfieldSchls
We kicked off the "Camp OCRS" Reading Week activities yesterday and we loved seeing students and staff dressed up as campers! Students participated in "Drop Everything and Read" yesterday morning and some classes did some "flashlight" reading together as if they were camping. Teachers have also worked together to decorate the school for this special "Camp OCRS" themed week.

We are investing in interactive technologies to promote a K-12 continuum of computer science skills. These first graders are developing codes. Our elementary & middle schools are part of our "3 to CTE" initiative @SmithfldSchls.
5th graders read "Jess and Layla's Astronomical Assignment" and picked six out of the seven astronomers from the story to create posters illustrating their different models of the earth. The students explained he differences between the various models and which is the most similar to the modern astronomical model of the earth.
