Samantha Armstrong teaches a variety of science courses at SHS, including Forensics, Aquatics, and sometimes Anatomy. She also coaches Science Olympiad. " I truly enjoy working with students at the high school level because we can go deeper than to spark an interest, deeper than an 'A-ha!' moment, and can really dig into the content and how it relates to the students and our shared world." Thank you, Mrs. Armstrong! #TeacherAppreciationWeek @SmithfieldSchls

During Teacher Appreciation Week in the Smithfield Public Schools, we will be highlighting our educators and the work they do. According to Kristine Strauss, SHS Art teacher, "Each and every day I have the pleasure of teaching teenagers how art offers a foundation of not only creative and technical skills, but also the development of thinking skills." Thank you, Ms. Strauss! #TeacherAppreciationWeek

This Wednesday, February 7th is the 100th day of school!
To celebrate this fun milestone in the school year we invite students to dress up how they think an older (possibly an 100 year old) person would dress. We're excited to see what creative (and fun) ideas our students can come up with to dress up like an older person. Like all other spirit days, participation is completely voluntary.
We have also invited staff to participate, although some staff already look like they are approaching 100 years old, so how they dress on Wednesday may not look very different from how they normally dress (Mr. Barrette's beard has gotten much whiter over these past 6 years)!

Snow is currently in the weather forecast for Sunday evening into Monday. To ensure that we are prepared for a POTENTIAL virtual learning day, we will be sending students home with Chromebooks at dismissal. Please expect your child to come home with their school Chromebook and a power adapter. You will be able to connect the Chromebook to your home Wi-Fi to allow for virtual learning IF we are not in school on Monday.
Chromebooks are being sent home as a PRECAUTION in the event that schools are closed on Monday. Stay tuned for additional information from the district and school about any potential weather delays or cancellations.

The OCRS PTA has a general membership meeting scheduled for this week on Tuesday, 1/23 at 6:00 PM in the OCRS Media Center. Look for the meeting agenda on the Old County Road School PTA Facebook page,
https://www.facebook.com/OCRSPTA
Our superintendent, Dr. Dawn Bartz, is scheduled to join us to talk with OCRS parents about what is happening in the Smithfield schools and what we can look forward to in the future. We also have some Smithfield High School students who are coming to the meeting to supervise OCRS students while their parents attend the meeting. This is something new we're introducing to increase parent participation in our PTA!
We encourage parents/guardians to attend PTA meetings in-person. However, we also understand that family schedules can be very busy and challenging to manage, so here is a link to join the meeting remotely via Google Meet:
