Our elementary principals are meeting to plan the opening of schools in just a month's time @SmithfieldSchls

Construction on a new athletic field & track is in full swing @SmithfieldSchls. This project will include concession stands, new bleachers, & entranceway.

Just an FYI from our school nurse, Mrs. Forte, that we are seeing an increase in diagnosed cases of strep in both students and staff. If your child complains of a sore throat and/or fever, you may want to contact your child's pediatrician. Please find attached a fact sheet from the RIDOH about strep.

5th Grade End of the Year Party The PTA 5th Grade Committee is hosting an End of the Year Party tonight from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Portuguese-American Club at 32 Fenwood Ave, Smithfield, RI 02917. This is a drop off event AND it is being held RAIN OR SHINE! The PTA 5th Grade Committee has planned a number of fun activities, regardless of the weather, and the PA Club has graciously offered their building to host the party indoors if it's raining. Students will receive their yearbooks and some other goodies to help them make the transition to middle school!

Hello 5th grade families, As you know, the district wide 5th Grade Field Day outside at Deerfield Park is scheduled for tomorrow, June 6th. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management has issued an Air Quality Alert for tomorrow related to the fires in Nova Scotia. All three elementary schools are monitoring the situation and will decide together tomorrow morning whether the Field Day needs to be cancelled for the safety of students and staff. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management has issued an Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulates, from midnight tonight to midnight EDT Tuesday night. An Air Quality Action day means that Fine Particulates concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. Field Day tomorrow! All students should dress for WARM weather and outdoor activities. Families should assist students to apply sunscreen at home before coming to school. Teachers and staff cannot apply sunscreen for students at school. The PTA is graciously providing students with a cool treat tomorrow at the end of Field Day! Please find below the ingredients list for the freeze pops that will be served to students. If your child has an allergy or sensitivity to any of these ingredients, please let us know.

OCRS' Got Talent! is being held this Friday, May 26th at 6:00 PM in the Smithfield High School Auditorium. The exciting free event is an opportunity for OCRS students to showcase their talents and for us to have some fun as a school community! We have 10+ student acts signed up to perform and we invite all OCRS families to join us for the show to cheer on our student performers. The show should last about 40-45 minutes and it will be hosted by a trio of our 5th graders. We hope to see you there! #OCRSrocks

The school district is offering free, at-home COVID tests to any families that would like them. The district has a number of tests in our inventory and we would like to share them with families before they expire in November 2023. If you would like to request at-home COVID tests for your family, please complete the form linked below. We will send home two COVID tests with each student for every family that requests them. If you have multiple students at OCRS, we will send home tests for each student. Getting ready for the Buddy Bench dedication at Pleasant View on Sat., May 20 from 10-12, rain or shine @PVES. The benches were funded by the Smithfield Rotary Club & built by our students. Activities include a free omelet station & games. Our school community is welcome.
