Sometimes you just need to admire a good friend's new haircut. Hmmm, that haircut looks an awful lot like Mr. Barrette's...
Our 5th graders were working hard on Friday afternoon, in groups and independently
Today was the 100th day of school and our classrooms celebrated in a variety of ways. Mrs. Sisco's Kindergarten was creating necklaces using 100 beads and Mr. Barrette joined them. You can see that Mr. Barrette still has work to do on his necklace!
We are VERY proud of our two 5th grade super spellers. Great job this morning at the District Spelling Bee!
In Art with Miss Burrows, 5th graders were challenged to design a prosthetic that would give people a specific "super power" and then present and explain their design to their peers. Such creative and thoughtful designs!

Due to icy conditions, there will be a 1-hour delayed opening to school tomorrow, Tuesday 1/22. Even with a one hour delay tomorrow, it's important to bundle up and watch for children at bus stops. Drive safely everyone!
Smithfield Public Schools will be on a one hour delay for Tuesday, January 22, 2018 due to prepare for icy conditions around our schools. 12 month employees should report on time.
We want to remind all families that you can apply for free and reduced lunches at anytime during the school year, especially when there's a change in income. Please fill out a lunch application at, http://smithfieldri.apptegy.us/o/smithfield-public-schools/browse/36683

Miss Burrows working with our 3rd grade students on "zooming in" on their hands and drawing the patterns of creases and lines that they observe.
The students in Mrs. Deslauriers classroom have been continuing to practice being responsible in school and their work has been noticed by others at OCRS. To celebrate their hard work, they brought in their favorite hats to wear in class!
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the PTA General Membership Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 1/8/19 has been cancelled. Information will be sent out to OCRS families as soon as the next meeting is scheduled. We apologize for any inconvenience.
A few parents are organizing a "Got Sneakers" fundraiser for an OCRS family, The Brady Family, that could use some support. While this is a private fundraiser and not a school fundraiser, we want to help support this cause as a school community.
OCRS will be collecting any gently used sneakers from Monday, 1/14/19 until April vacation. Please bring in your gently used sneakers and place them in the specially designated bin outside of the OCRS Main Office.
Please see the email message that Mr. Barrette sent to OCRS families for more details.
The RI Healthy Schools Coalition and Farm Fresh RI are working together on a program called "Local Food Ambassador" to bring more locally grown food into school lunch programs. Please see the flyer that was emailed to all OCRS families by Mr. Barrette for more information.
