Hello OCRS families,
We have just over four weeks left of this school year and it looks like the weather will be warming up this week. Just a reminder that, according to the dress code in the Elementary School Handbook, all shirts/tops need to cover a student's entire torso and flip flops should not be worn to school. We want students to be as cool and comfortable as possible while still making sure that we follow the dress code established for all Smithfield elementary students.
OCRS Spirit Days
We're going to celebrate the last few weeks of the school year with some special Spirit Days for students and staff.
Friday, May 31st - Sports Day
Wear gear to show your favorite sports team or even wear your own sports uniform!
Thursday, June 6th - Field Day and Grade Level Colors
Each grade level wears a specific color to show their pride on Field Day!
Kindergarten-Purple
1st grade - Blue
2nd grade - Orange
3rd grade - Yellow
4th grade - Black
5th grade - Wear your special green 5th grade t-shirts!
Friday, June 7th - Wild West Day
Saddle up in your best western attire (denim jacket/jeans, boots, hats, neck bandanas)
Friday, June 14th - Hawaiian Day
Summer is almost here! Celebrate wearing your favorite Hawaiian/vacation outfit!
Memorial Day Ceremony
Our friends at The American Legion Balfour-Cole Post 64 are inviting OCRS students and families to join them for the annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 27th at 11:00 AM at the Veterans Memorial at Deerfield Park.
PTA "Funny for Funds" event, Friday 5/31 from 6PM to 9PM
The PTA is organizing a "Funny for Funds" event on Friday, May 31st from 6PM to 9PM. Please consider sponsoring OCRS first annual comedy show! Go to https://www.funny4funds.com/events/ocrs-pta-annual-fundraiser/1280 to purchase tickets for what is sure to be an incredibly fun night!
The comedy show will be held at the Elks Lodge right here in Smithfield and it will be a great night out for OCRS adults! Because this is a comedy show intended specifically for adults, children should not attend.
Scholarship in Memory of Katherine Young
The Smithfield School District has established a scholarship in memory of our sweet colleague and friend Katherine Young. 100% of the funds raised through the sale of these items will go to fund the scholarship and continue her legacy. All items will be delivered to Smithfield High School. Production of the items will begin when the online pop-up store closes on May 28th, https://myclassgear.com/kyms/

Tri-County Resources and Events for Families
The Tri-County Community Action Agency (https://www.tricountyri.org) is offering a variety of resources and events for families. Here are some of the resources and events they are offering (see the linked fliers attached for details):
- Food Pantry, emergency food for families (flyer)
- Children's Closet, clothing available for children from newborn to 10 years old (flyer)
- "Adventure Awaits" events for preschool students up to age 5 (flyer)
SYSA Registration for Fall 2024 Season
The Smithfield Youth Soccer Association has opened registration for the Fall 2024 season. Early Bird Registration is open through the end of May. Please see the linked flyer for all of the details.
Kickball Tournament
