Hello OCRS families,
Spring starts this Tuesday and we have begun the 3rd Trimester of this school year! It's important for all of us to continue to work together to support our students and help them be successful for the remainder of the school year. This includes our focus on attendance as a school and we truly appreciate all of the hard work families are doing to make sure that their children are at school on-time each day.
Special Olympics Unified School Program
On Thursday March 7, 2024 our whole school celebrated the Special Olympics “Spread The Word Inclusion” Day and any student who wanted had an opportunity to sign our Oath Banner! It was a great day celebrating being Unified and including all students!
So what is next?
OCRS is starting its first ever Unified Club, called The Good Vibe Tribe. In partnership with Special Olympics this Unified Club will work with identified and selected student leaders to continue to promote Being Kind, Respectful and Responsible.
Support the Special Olympics RI Unified Champion School Plunge
We invite OCRS families to support the "Spread the Word: Inclusion" Movement and the purpose of our Good Vibe Tribe by participating in the Special Olympics RI Unified Champion School Plunge Saturday March 25, 2024 at Roger Wheeler Beach! Half of what our school raises will go directly back to our school’s newly formed Unified Leadership Club!

PTA General Meeting, Tuesday March 19th at 6:00 PM
The OCRS PTA has a general membership meeting scheduled this upcoming Tuesday, March 19th at 6:00 PM in the OCRS Media Center.
We encourage parents/guardians to attend PTA meetings in-person. Like the last few meetings, Smithfield High School students will attend this meeting to supervise and play games with younger OCRS students that parents need to bring with them to the meeting. The SHS students have been a BIG hit with both younger students and families, so we encourage families to come out to the meeting in person, even if it means bringing a younger OCRS student with you.
OCRS PTA Pasta Dinner, Thursday March 21st at 5:30 PM
The OCRS PTA is organizing a Family Pasta Dinner to be held on Thursday, March 21st from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the Smithfield High School cafeteria. The dinner includes Pasta and meatballs, Bread and Salad, and Dessert and Refreshments. There will also be 50/50 raffles, music, and other fun activities!
The cost will be $10 per adult and $8 per child. Children ages 3 and under will be free of charge. All proceeds are to benefit the OCRS PTA. Advanced ticket purchase is required using the link below or by scanning the QR code on the linked flyer.

"Flannel/Fuzzy Friday" Spirit Day this Friday, March 22nd
This Friday we are hosting a "Flannel/Fuzzy Friday" Spirit Day at school! Before the Spring weather begins to warm up, we encourage students and staff to wear the comfiest flannel or fuzzy items to school. For safety, please no slippers!
PTA Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23rd
The PTA is hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on the OCRS playground on Saturday, March 23rd at 9:00 AM. The Egg Hunt will take place rain or shine and Boy Scout Troop 1 is helping to assemble the eggs.
PTA United Skates Night, Monday April 8th
The OCRS PTA is hosting a private Family Fun Skate Night at United Skates on Monday, April 8th from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Admission to the event is free. If anyone needs them, there is a $5 fee to rent skates and a $6 fee to rent roller blades. You may also bring your own roller skates or rollerblades with you.
Free glow sticks will be provided at the door and there are other activities available at United Skates for a fee. Please see the linked flyer for details.
Revive the Roots FUN-raiser
Revive the Roots, one of our terrific community partners here in Smithfield, will be hosting their annual "FUN-Raiser" on Thursday, March 28th from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at R1 Indoor Karting in Lincoln, RI. This is a family event with free billiards, music, access to the full arcade, free pizza, auctions, raffles, more surprises!
