Traffic jam

Now that we're in our 3rd week of the new school year, we want to establish and reinforce routines that are helpful for all families. The weather these past few days has meant that we have had more families than usual dropping students off at school in the morning. There was quite a backup this morning onto Old County Road which impacted traffic for all drivers. For the safety of all involved, especially students, please follow these guidelines every morning during drop-off:

  1. Pull up as far as you can before dropping off your child. We can fit quite a few cars in the front driveway and we want to avoid having any cars waiting in line on Old County Road. While we understand that families want to drop their child off right near the door, staff members (including Mr. Barrette) are outside every morning to assist students to walk safely on the sidewalk to the playground or the front door. When families stop at the door, it causes traffic to back up for everyone.
  2. If your child is having trouble getting out of the vehicle or if you want to get out of the car to hug them goodbye, please pull into one of the parking spaces; do not park in the main driveway. We know that some younger students have difficulty saying goodbye to their parent or guardian in the morning and that's to be expected. However, when families stop and park in the main driveway, it causes traffic to back up and creates an unsafe situation where cars need to pass each other. If you are in the main driveway and your child is having trouble getting out of the car, please loop back out of the driveway onto Old County Road, re-enter the driveway, and park in one of the spaces to assist your child. You can walk your child to the sidewalk where Mr. Barrette or another staff member will help guide them to the playground or into the building.
  3. After dropping off your child, please pull forward and come to a complete stop where the front entrance driveway meets the driveway that runs along the playground and around the rear of the school. Be aware of school buses entering the campus! This it typically where Mr. Barrette or Mr. Gruczka stand in the morning to help direct traffic.
  4. Family vehicles should exit the campus onto Old County Road after coming to a complete stop at the stop sign. Again, be aware of school buses entering the campus!

Families can always find morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures on the school website under the "Family Info" tab/menu.
