Mrs. DePetrillo's 5th grade students assisted Mrs. Sisco's Kindergarten students in designing and building a clothesline from a variety of materials (Play-Doh, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners). The teams of students needed to draw their idea for an initial design, try it out, make adjustments, and then draw what their final design looked like. The Kindergarten students needed to successfully hang their paper mittens from their clothesline using mini clothespins. It was quite an engineering challenge!

Students are welcome to come with their family to the Open House, but all students must stay with and be supervised by their family at all times. Also, please be aware that, while the Open House is a terrific opportunity for families to meet their child's teachers, it is not intended to be an in-depth parent/teacher conference or a discussion about specific issues and concerns. Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled to take place on December 5th and are a more appropriate time for comprehensive discussions about individual students. Parents and families should also feel free to reach to individual teachers at any time regarding their child. We are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow evening!

In order to fix some busing schedule issues at the later elementary schools, the district is making some changes to the school hours of three of the schools for next year. At OCRS, the new school hours for students will be pushed up 5 minutes, 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Students may be dropped off as early as 7:55 a.m. Supervision is not available prior to 7:55 a.m., so students may not be dropped off any earlier. After 8:15 a.m., students are considered tardy and MUST be signed in at the office. This procedure is in place for the safety of all of our students. When weather permits, students gather in the schoolyard prior to entering the school building. During inclement weather, students enter the school immediately and meet in the gym. Students who need to order lunch and/or eat breakfast at school shall proceed directly to the cafeteria upon arrival, then report to the schoolyard or gym (during inclement weather).

From Mr. Gruczka- Hoops For Heart Week is upon us so now is the time to send in any donations in the Hoops For Heart Collection envelopes. All this week the students will be participating in Basketball themed activities in Physical Education to celebrate fitness and learning. We kicked things off first thing this morning with a surprise walking maze in the gymnasium when the students arrived! In addition to the activities they are also learning a song composed jointly by myself and Mrs. Erin Preston, our Music Teacher. Be sure to ask them to show you the corresponding movements and what they learned from the song. Thank you again from myself and everyone at the American Heart Association for all that you do to support this cause. Mr. G

A few parents are organizing a "Got Sneakers" fundraiser for an OCRS family, The Brady Family, that could use some support. While this is a private fundraiser and not a school fundraiser, we want to help support this cause as a school community. OCRS will be collecting any gently used sneakers from Monday, 1/14/19 until April vacation. Please bring in your gently used sneakers and place them in the specially designated bin outside of the OCRS Main Office. Please see the email message that Mr. Barrette sent to OCRS families for more details.
